Remember my #RockHot co-host John Gregory Olson? How can you not? He’s the consummate planner, soundbite artist (that I learned today is called an audio emoji) and chief cook and technical officer.
Well, John recently decided to undergo a small business re-brand for his blog and website. Previously, when I first met John on my blog, Soulati-‘TUDE!, he was writing on WordPress.com, a rental property. I convinced him he needed to migrate to his self-hosted website platform and take all of his content to his owned media site. It was an intense migration with many intricacies. He did that and began blogging over at jgodigital.com — don’t you love that name?
Enter Heart Marketing
You may recall that John and I have been podcasting on The Heart of Marketing since February 2015. This episode you’ll listen to is number 81, and we have three special editions on our Go for Heart program, so that makes 84! We’re pretty proud of that, and we set out to own all of our content and develop a website that is hosted on a platform of our selection.
Because both of us are trying to abide my our 5 Pillars of Heart Marketing (no we don’t have a true link to take you there, but we can share an episode in which we cover it), John decided to go one step further and get closer to our brand and heart marketing philosophy. He wanted a new domain name to echo our weekly musings on the show, and so he determined another re-brand was necessary.
Small Business Re-brand
When was the last time your business underwent a re-brand? Every small business, and heck, even larger ones, has to endure a re-brand every now and again. John has done it now twice with an initial website migration and now with a domain change that required more content migration and starting from essentially scratch. He changed his logo to reflect the new, lively colors of The Heart of Marketing, and he chose a new domain — digitalheartmarketing.com to also reflect his purpose and mission.
When you listen, you’ll hear tips from a pro on the following:
- Whether a site migration is a negative for domain authority
- What is the why about whether a re-brand is necessary
- How podcasting has helped with writing power to revise a dead blog
- Naming the new entity and how message mapping is helpful
And, oh by the way? Never one to miss an opportunity to promote myself, ahem, I get to take the reins from John (who really doesn’t like it too much)! Hilarious.
Thanks for listening, heart marketers!
